As such, the prison ceased to operate as a female
factory, but continued to operate as a house of correction
(or gaol) for females. It was no longer confined
to imprisoning female convicts.
Prisoners
Removed to Campbell St Gaol
In
1877, the last of the female prisoners were transferred
to the Campbell St Gaol in Hobart and the site ceased
to function as a prison.
Between
10 and 12 April 1877, the female prisoners at Cascades
Gaol were removed to Campbell St Gaol, Hobart.
A list of these women is provided in GD 41/1 held
at the Archives Office of Tasmania and information
extracted from this record is reproduced here.
