The Matron's Cottage was purchased from private ownership in 2003.  In late 2004, the Female Factory Historic Site Ltd received a grant from the Federal Government for some much needed restoration work on the cottage and its grounds.  This work has now commenced.

The Matron's Cottage, built c1849, is located in what was Yard 4 of the Cascades Female Factory and overlooked the nursery.  It is the sole remaining original building on the site of the Cascades Female Factory.

The Matron's Cottage is visited on our tours.  It houses displays and some of the site's collections.

The Female Factory Research Group Research Room is also located in the Matron's Cottage.

The Cottage is also available for small group use, for meetings, etc.  Please contact the Project Manager.
