On
Sunday, 7 November 2004, a muster of descendants of
all female convicts who spent time in Van Diemen's
Land and people who worked at the female factories
was held at the Cascades Female Factory Heritage Site,
Hobart.
The event celebrated the lives of women transported
to VDL, as founding Australians (our Female Family
Founders), both during the time of their incarceration
and after they gained their freedom.
The muster was a huge success, with over 800 people
attending. The
Female Factory Historic Site
Ltd Board extends their congratulations
to the organisers, the
Female Factory Research Group, and thanks
everyone involved.
Our celebration of the lives of female convicts was
a wonderful day for everyone who attended. Even
though the day was cold and overcast, at least the
rain held off and there was little wind.
Many activities
and events occurred throughout the day. They included:
