Meetings

In its inaugural year, the Female Factory Research Group organised the Female Factory Muster, which was very successful.  Many attendees asked if we could hold one every year.  Due to limited resources, unfortunately, that is not possible.  However, we may decide to hold one again in a few years.

Our events calendar provides a list of upcoming, past and ongoing events.

The Female Factory Historic Site also hosts events.

Wash Day Blues—This installation celebrated the resilience of Tasmanian Women by telling their stories and displaying them on a series of garment shapes hung from a clothes line. Senior Momentum held workshops throughout Tasmania and stories and autobiographical accounts collected included those of convict ancestors, Aboriginal and pioneer women, migrants, people with disabilities and their carers. The project is supported by Tasmanian Regional Arts.

Roses from the Heart Rose installation—This installation was a tribute to women, especially the approximately 25,000 convict women who were shipped to 'parts unknown' and became the backbone of contemporary Australian society. The installation took the form of the symbol of women and be made from roses. The cross at the base of the circle was slightly larger than normal to give emphasis to the symbol normally placed above a grave, but denied many of the convict women at burial.

Garage Sale—This was a fundraising event of the Female Factory Research Group to support our ongoing research. We raised $238.85.

We hosted our inaugural quiz night on Friday, 7 October 2005.  It was very successful—we received lots of positive feedback about the night.

Compère for the night was Dino Ottavi and there was a melodrama at 'half-time'.

We raised over $1400—thank you to everyone involved for making the night such a wonderful success.
